Trolley dreaming

The Coconut Grove Trolley is coming. We don't have a start date yet but things are starting to move. You may have seen markers along the sidewalks, indicating the trolley stops in the village. The City has released this map of proposed stops. What do you think? Does it work for you?

Some feel that the trolley should go to the 27th Avenue Metrorail station, but it does go to the Douglas Station, which I think is more important as it connects to the Coral Gables trolley there. And it doesn't cover the Bird Avenue business area, but the good part is that the trolley is not on tracks or connected to overhead wires, so the routes can always be changed.

Please click on the map and it will open much larger.

Doesn't work for me at all. How about having it start from south Miami station coming down Sunset Dr. coming through the Grove that way and continue on that route. Seems too short.

Very cool. Does the Mercy stop link up to the Brickell-Biscayne trolley?

@9:15:

I don't know, maybe because South Miami isn't part of the City of Miami?

Can't make everyone happy...

Great. Will create an even more horrific traffic scenario than the one we already have......

@10:20 Gables is not part of the City of Miami either and still the trolleys will connect at Douglas Station according to Tom's article. There are many good reasons why free trolleys should be connected like a network and on top of the list is unhindered freedom of movement for the public.

@11:03:

The station is located within the city of Miami.

Besides that, the lack of a city of Miami trolley operating at the South Miami station isn't hindering your movement as you can simply hop on the metro and get to the Douglas station.

Gables has and has for a long time had, its own trolly network. The city of Miami merely copied this to provide what is seen here. South Miami should start its own trolley if it likes, but I doubt that will happen.

Anyone complaint about no stops further east on Bird than Virginia St. needs to be ashamed. My 94 year old grandmother can walk to Flanny's from there, ya crybabies (as she would say).

I have taken the entire loop from Mercy through Brickell, Downtown, Mid
Town and The Design District. It's a great eye opening trip and free. Connecting it to The Grove is a great plus.

Yes, it connects with the Brickell Trolley which also goes to Mercy Hospital.

If it went down Tigertail from 22 Ave and then on Oak it would not impact Bayshore or McFairlane, which are a mess...

The City of Miami does not even share a border with the City of South Miami. Coral Gables is in the middle....The Gables and Miami have a lot of common interests. For example lots of kids go to Gables High and live in the Grove. My kid goes to Ponce....

So yeah, take up your issue with your local gvmt.

I didn't realize the Douglas station had a link to the Gables trolley. I guess this is good. But still seems like 27th ave is a natural. Keen in mind the 27th ave station is called "Coconut Grove". So if I was a tourist, or a local not terribly familiar with the area, wanting to go tot he Grove. Where would you get off? Douglas or 27th Ave........

Obviously you can't please everyone. Just be glad we are finally getting something positive.

I agree that a route along tigertail ave rather than bayshore dr would be better option to have stops within walking distance for most north grove residents
